The main works of the project were geological and alignment surveys for the reconstruction and expansion of the roads in Malawi (approximately 10 kilometers of Lilongwe airport road, 140 kilometers of the Ntcheu - Mwanza road and 129.5 kilometers of Mangochi - Makanjila road). Among the three roads, the fully enclosed Ntcheu-Mwanza Highway followed the Class II highway design standard, with asphalt pavement, roadbed width of 9 meters, including lane width of 6.0 meters and earth shoulder of 2 x 1.5 meters; The Mangochi - Makanjila road followed the Class II highway design standard with asphalt pavement, roadbed width of 9.1m, including lane width of 6.1 m and hardened shoulder width of 2 x 1.5 m; The two-way four-lane Lilongwe airport road followed the equivalent Class I highway design standard.
